ORLANDO, Fla. (May 18, 2026) — As kindergarten classrooms have become more structured and academically demanding, WUCF is helping Central Florida families feel more confident and prepared through its "On My Way to K" learning initiative.

Hosted in partnership with local libraries across Central Florida, these free summer events are designed for rising kindergarteners and their caregivers.

Each session offers hands-on activities, take-home resources and practical ideas families can use to support learning in everyday moments, from grocery store trips to playtime conversations.

The initiative connects families to trusted PBS KIDS and WUCF educational resources while reinforcing an important message: learning is already happening at home.

"We know caregivers are already doing so much to support their children," said Jennifer Cook, WUCF's executive director. "'On My Way to K' helps families recognize those everyday learning moments and gives them simple, approachable ways to build on them. We want families to feel confident walking into that first day of kindergarten and know they already have what it takes to help their children learn, grow and thrive."

Unlike traditional school-readiness programs, "On My Way to K" is designed to fit naturally into family routines. The program avoids educational jargon and focuses instead on realistic, easy-to-use strategies that help caregivers feel informed and empowered.

The series also highlights how PBS KIDS programming and digital resources can support specific developmental and academic skills, helping families turn screen time into active learning opportunities.

This year's "On My Way to K" summer series includes events in Flagler, Volusia, Marion, Seminole, Sumter, Osceola, Lake, Brevard, and Orange counties.

Families can find the full event schedule, reserve spots and access free kindergarten readiness resources at wucf.org/OMWTK
