WUCF's Krystel Knowles Receives SPJ Awards

Orlando, FL WUCF's Krystel Knowles, NewsNight senior producer, recently won two Sunshine State Awards from the Society of Professional Journalists. The awards ceremony took place Saturday, Aug. 17 in Hollywood, FL.

The award-winning entries include Felon Voters Facing Voting Uncertainty in the Government, Politics & Election Reporting category and focused on the uncertainties faced by former felons looking to vote in Florida elections; and Mosquito-Borne Illnessesin the Health Reporting category which included NewsNight’s coverage of an outbreak of mosquito-borne illnesses and the story following the work of mosquito control officers in two Central Florida counties.

"NewsNight’s high quality journalism has been recognized with several awards and two Emmy nominations since beginning in 2019," said Steve Mort, NewsNight executive producer. "Krystel’s achievement at the SBJs is a testament to WUCF’s continuing commitment to in-depth reporting."
