WUCF TV, Central Florida’s PBS station, is celebrating Hispanic Heritage month with a lineup of entertaining and informative stories about Hispanic-Americans and the issues they face on Fridays starting September 13.
American Masters and Voces come together on Friday, September 13 at 9 p.m. to premiere “Raúl Juliá: The World’s a Stage,” the first documentary on Juliá, the late charismatic Puerto Rican actor who is best known for his versatile ability to portray roles in Shakespearean plays to “The Addams Family.” The documentary will feature interviews with actors who worked alongside him, such as Rita Moreno and Edward James Olmos, to actors who were inspired by seeing an unapologetically Puerto Rican actor on screen and on stage. His personal life will also be explored with interviews with his family and friends, with never-before-seen family photos and video creating a more candid insight on his life away from the spotlight. On Fridays from September 20 to October 4, viewers can explore the best of Latino arts, culture and history with Voces. Both new and established filmmakers will tell stories on diverse Hispanic American experiences and issues that affect the community. The first episode, ‘The Pushouts’, will focus on Hispanic youth and education. Each Voces episode will air at 9 p.m. Learn more about Voces here.
“It is important to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month through the people and events that have helped shape culture in the United States,” said Dr. Phil Hoffman, WUCF executive director. “WUCF is proud to be Central Florida’s storyteller and bring diverse stories on what it means to be American to our viewers.”
Additional Hispanic Heritage programming includes Buen Provecho! Florida’s Spanish Flavor on Sunday, September 29; POV: The Silence of Others on Monday, September 30; and the 32nd Annual Hispanic Heritage awards show on Friday, October 11.
