To honor and celebrate the first man in space, Yuri Gagarin, the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex will host “Yuri’s Night Space Coast” on Saturday, April 13 from 8 p.m. until 12:30 p.m. The party will be held beneath Space Shuttle Atlantis in the Space Shuttle Atlantis facility.
The Soviet-born Gagarin made his 108-minute voyage to the unknown on April 12, 1961 setting forth the space race of the 1960s.
To celebrate Gagarin’s amazing accomplishment and the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, Robert Stone, filmmaker for American Experience’s Chasing the Moon, will be on hand to talk about the six-hour film coming to PBS on July 8, 9 and 10. Chasing the Moon reimagines the race to the moon for a new generation, up-ending much of the conventional mythology surrounding the effort. Utilizing a visual feast of previously overlooked and lost archival material — much of which has never before been seen by the public — the film features a diverse cast of characters who played key roles in these historic events.
Other activities include a VIP area, dancing, drinks, art, costumes and a live DJ. Guests can also have their photos taken with the Orlando Ghostbusters and the DeLorean from the film, Back to the Future.
