WUCF TV, Central Florida’s PBS station, is celebrating Black History month with a lineup of thought-provoking, insightful and entertaining programming about African Americans throughout the month of February.
Henry Louis Gates Jr. journeys with film director, Ava DuVernay, actor S. Epatha Merkerson, and musician Questlove, to the unexpected places where their ancestors were scattered by slavery, upending their notions of African American history in Finding Your Roots - Slave Trade. This episode of triumph will air Monday, February 11 at 8 p.m. on WUCF. View a trailer for the program here.
On Monday, February 24 at 9 p.m. WUCF will be re-airing The Groveland Four, a locally produced documentary exploring a 1949 Lake County rape case – which led to a race riot, multiple murders, two trials, a Supreme Court reversal, and the assassination of a Florida civil rights leader. Miles Davis: American Masters, airing on Tuesday, February 25 at 9 p.m., allows viewers to get an exclusive look into the life of the American Jazz legend who is widely recognized as one of the most influential and respected figures in music. This film features never-before-seen footage, including interviews and studio outtakes from his recording sessions.
“WUCF’s mission is to serve as Central Florida’s storyteller, and as we celebrate and honor Black History Month, it’s important to tell the stories that have shaped our history,” said Dr. Phil Hoffman, WUCF executive director. “WUCF is proud to continuously bring diverse stories to our viewers.”
