WUCF explores the enduring legacy of Zora Neale Hurston and her profound impact on the arts in Central Florida, particularly in the historic town of Eatonville. This episode highlights how her influence continues to shape civic and artistic life today.
WUCF "Arts in Action" Episode 3: Orlando's Poet Laureate Shawn Welcome
Shawn Welcome knows the power of words. He taught poetry in the Orange County jail, helping young people open up about their emotions and reflect on the paths they’ve taken. What began as a way to reach youth turned into something much bigger. Shawn founded “Diverse Word,” a weekly open mic that became a welcoming space for voices from all walks of life.
