Orlando, FL – Join WUCF on this journey through the history of Tarpon Springs on the newest episode of Florida Road Trip. We visit notable locations including the Sponge Docks, the Safford House Museum, and Brooker Creek Preserve.
“I had the good fortune to travel The Sunshine State for a decade, yet this is my first time visiting Tarpon Springs,” said Scott Fais, Host of Florida Road Trip. “I was immediately impressed with The Sponge Docks, one of the most recognizable areas of city. Along the waterfront, history is alive within the boats docked just feet away, inside the shops with their eclectic merchandise offerings, and in the restaurants serving authentic Greek cuisine. The Greek community contributed not only their culture, but technology that significantly changed the sponging industry here."
Not far from downtown is the Brooker Creek Preserve, the largest natural area in Pinellas County. It provides a variety of educational opportunities for visitors of all ages while also providing the protection of natural habitats and wildlife.
