This Christmas, celebrate the sounds of the holiday season with WUCF and the Bach Festival Society of Winter Park. A Classic Christmas with the Bach Festival Society: Joyful Sounds is a beloved Central Florida tradition and features the 175-voice Bach Festival Society choir, youth choir and orchestra. For the second time, WUCF recorded the performance and will broadcast it across Central Florida during the holiday season.
Filming for the concert took place on Dec. 9 and 10, and will air locally on WUCF this Christmas. Join WUCF TV on Friday, Dec. 22 at 9 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 24 at 5 p.m. and Monday, Dec. 25 at 1 a.m. for the pre-recorded concert performance, under the direction of Dr. John V. Sinclair, with sounds of the holiday season. As a gift to our viewers, A Classic Christmas will also be FREE through the PBS App on Dec. 25. Passport members can continue to watch A Classic Christmas with the Bach Festival Society: Joyful Sounds through Monday, January 1.
After January 1, the program will go back into post-production to prepare for national broadcast distribution in 2024. This means A Classic Christmas with the Bach Festival Society: Joyful Sounds will be seen by audiences across the country!
“We are profoundly grateful to be able to deliver a concert of this magnitude to living rooms across Central Florida and beyond,” said Jennifer Cook, WUCF TV’s executive director. “This partnership with the Bach Festival Society allows us to showcase talented local musicians while bringing a new holiday tradition to families across our nine-county viewing area.”
Led by Sinclair, the society’s artistic director and conductor, the esteemed ensembles offer traditional holiday selections from their rich and widely varied repertoire. Many of these works are well-known Christmas hymns and carols beautifully arranged specifically for the Bach Festival Choir and Orchestra.
"The Bach Festival Society began in 1935 as a way to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the passing of J. S. Bach," said Dr. John V. Sinclair, Bach Festival Society artistic director and conductor. "We began at Knowles Memorial Chapel on the campus of Rollins College and are thrilled to partner with WUCF TV to share this musical tradition with our Central Florida community and beyond. This performance is special because we believe Christmas music goes straight from the ear to the heart.”
