WUCF’s weekly news program NewsNight took home an award during the Florida Association of Broadcast Journalists virtual awards ceremony on Saturday, May 9. NewsNight won first place in the transportation and traffic category in the large television market division for its work on transportation reporting in 2019.
“We are honored that our NewsNight team could be recognized for their hard work in telling the story behind the story in Central Florida,” said Dr. Phil Hoffman, WUCF executive director. “As Central Florida’s Storytellers, WUCF and NewsNight strive to tell the complete story about a topic. Transportation is one of those issues that impacts everyone, so we are grateful to be recognized for our work in looking at it from every angle.”
NewsNight is a weekly, taped 30-minute program, featuring WFTV’s Nancy Alvarez as the moderator along with a team of journalists in radio, tv, newspaper, and blogs across Central Florida. The show is a round-table discussion that highlights local journalism around important community topics. The panel looks at the big story or stories of the week and discusses what and how they’ll impact the community.
The Florida Association of Broadcast Journalists selects winners that reflect the unique style of Making News: Florida Style while pushing the boundaries of creativity, digging for truth, and holder the powerful accountable.
