Throughout February, WUCF celebrates what it means to be a kind and caring neighbor. Families can share kindness by joining WUCF for its annual Kindness Month activities, including at-home Kindness Kits, two Be My Neighbor Day Give Back projects and a virtual PBS KIDS Time Dance Party with Daniel Tiger.
Kicking off February 1, families can download or pick up a Kindness Kit that includes five at-home activities celebrating kindness and what it means to be a caring neighbor. Activities include a PBS KIDS Emotions Wheel, Family Photo Frame, Kindness Bracelets, Explore Your Community Daniel Tiger Printable, and a My World Scavenger Hunt. Kindness Kits can be printed at home or picked up at a local library, while supplies last. Visit wucf.org/kindnessmonth to print the kit or find a location for pick up.
WUCF will also host two Give Back service projects. The first event will be a Community Clean Up at Lake Lorna Doone Park in partnership with Keep Orlando Beautiful on Saturday, February 4 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The second event will be a Kids Pack project held at the WUCF Studios on February 18 at 9:00 a.m. in partnership Kids House of Seminole. This project will include assembling materials and supplies for children served by Kids House. If you can’t make it to one of these Give Back projects, WUCF encourages you to choose a volunteer project that’s right for your family. You could pick up litter in your neighborhood, plant or care for a pollinator garden, or donate toys, books, clothing, or food to a local service organization. Registration for WUCF’s Give Back projects is required by signing up at wucf.org/familyevents.
To celebrate the kind and caring acts of service during Be My Neighbor Day Give Back events, WUCF has planned a virtual PBS KIDS Time Dance Party for Saturday, February 25. This event will include a Reuse/Recycle instrument craft, songs from Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, a snack time, recognition of service, and a special appearance from Daniel Tiger. Visit wucf.org/bemyneighborday to register.
"Be My Neighbor Day is a beloved annual event at WUCF, and we are excited to share Daniel Tiger's message of kindness through our Give Back events and activity kits," said Jennifer Cook, executive director of WUCF. "As WUCF celebrates its 10th anniversary, we remain committed to building on the legacy of Fred Rogers within our community for many years to come."
Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood is one of PBS’ most popular animated programs and airs weekdays at 9:30 a.m. on WUCF. Produced by Fred Rogers Productions, the program builds on the pioneering PBS series, Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood. The series tells engaging stories about the life of a preschooler using musical strategies grounded in Rogers’ landmark social-emotional curriculum. Through imagination, creativity and music, Daniel and his friends learn the key social skills necessary for school and life.
WUCF could not make Be My Neighbor Day or the virtual events successful without the additional support of PNC Grow Up Great®, Fred Rogers Productions, VoLo Foundation, Window World of Central Florida, the Elizabeth Morse Genius Foundation, and our county library partners.
