Rescan on WUCF

The following rescan information is for WUCF viewers.

What's happening?
If you watch any WUCF programming over an antenna, this applies to you! If you watch WUCF via Spectrum cable, you do not need to take any action. However, if you watch WUCF via any other cable or satellite providers, you will not have to rescan.

WUCF is updating our antenna equipment to comply with new FCC requirements, which may cause brief interruptions to your over-the-air signal on WUCF, Create, NHK and PBS Kids. You need to plan to rescan your channels once this change is made. Check this page for up-to-date information about what’s happening throughout the process.

Status Updates --
Thursday, Jan. 23 - 4:45 p.m.: WUCF has returned! You should now be able to receive WUCF in Central Florida. If you watch via antenna, you will need to rescan your television. If you need help, call the Rescan Hotline at 1-888-CALLFCC /888-225-5322 and press 6.

Thursday, Jan. 23 - 2 p.m.: Tower crews are suiting up to head up the tower in the rain to start tuning our antenna frequency. Check back for updates!

Wednesday, Jan. 22 - 3 p.m.: Cold & windy weather has forced a work stoppage for today. Crews will be back on site Thursday at 7 a.m. to continue the work on the antenna. We are sorry for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience.

Wednesday, Jan. 22 - 12 p.m.: Current weather conditions have stopped the installation process for now. Winds are gusting and this has caused the elevator on the tower to freeze. Crews are monitoring conditions to see if they can raise themselves up without the elevator, however safety is the top priority. Check back for additional updates.

Wednesday, Jan. 22 - 9 a.m.: Crews are finishing work on cutting two transmission lines for installation on the tower (photo below). The climbers will then take the pieces up the tower for installation. Our crews continue to work as fast and as safely as they can.

Tuesday, Jan. 21 - 4 p.m.: Crews are continuing to work on removing old transmission lines (shown below) and installing new ones for our new antenna. Winds are causing some delays but they are trying to work around them as much as possible. Unfortunately because of the slowed pace due to the weather, we won't be back on-air tonight.

Monday, Jan. 20 - 4 p.m.: Tower climbers were able to secure all five mounts to the new WUCF antenna to the East Orange Co. tower (below photo). The mounts provide extra protection from wind during storms such as hurricanes. Crews still have to sweep the line and make manual adjustments to the frequency of transmission.

Monday, Jan. 20 - 10 a.m.: Tower climbers have started the process of raising our new antenna to its location on our tower. The process is a tedious one with additional work to be completed once it’s in place. We will update this page with additional information as we have it. Thanks for your continued patience.

Sunday, Jan. 19: Weather continues to be a factor in the delay of installing our new antenna. Our tower climbers continue to work as quickly as they can to make sure WUCF gets back on the air. Afternoon storms ended today's work early. The photo below is of our new antenna attached to the cabling ready to be installed. Thank you for your continued patience. Additional updates will be posted when available.

Saturday, Jan. 18: Due to high winds earlier in the week, the process of raising the new antenna has been delayed. We want to make sure our crews are completing work safely. Work by our tower climbers continued today on raising the new antenna up the East Orange Co. tower. Winds were a bit high - even SpaceX had to scrub a launch today due to upper level winds. We expect additional updates Sunday morning. Keep checking back for updates!

Friday, Jan. 17: Work continues on securing the mounts (shown below) for our new antenna to be placed on our tower. Upper level winds may prevent the antenna from going up today.

Thursday, Jan. 16: Tower climbers were able to remove our old antenna. The photo below shows it being lowered to the ground.

Wednesday, Jan. 15: The tower climber is working hard to get WUCF back on air. The photo below is a view from above our old antenna on the tower.
